Look at life through the windscreen, not the rearview mirror.

Although I am not going to attach it to this post you can look in the Workshop Manual Supplement for the Fuel and Emission control systems (try searching for 1789-1E-03G in google). If you look on Page F2-21 the DTC code P2009 actually stands for Variable swirl control (VSC) solenoid valve circuit high input so you are looking for the VSC solenoid valve. If you then look on page F2-13  it show the location of various control solenoids including the VSC solenoid valve (Num. 23).

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help with this. i have tested the solenoids and they all seem to be working correctly. i cleared the fault codes with the obd11 reader i have and also un-hooked the battery for 10 mins. got the car up to temp and it drove fine no lights on the dash for 5 miles ish then the light came back on.
what should i be testing next?

Hi there,

Any updates regarding this problem. I got the same problem now and I am not a car techie..

We have done the diagnostic and it came up with P2009 code and we cleared it just to make sure and it came back on again.

One thing I observed was this is happening only when put reverse gear and give a bit of Rev and hold the clutch way down.

I dont if there is any problem in that.

The code is exactly saying

P2009 is intake manifold runner control circuit low bank 1

Can some one tell what is the problem and how much would it cost?

Recently in last 6 months I spent on EGR valve changes as well. So bit concerned now if it related or not

Thank you

I fixed the fault today :) it was the VSC solenoid, i had tested this solenoid back in feb and it was working, It must have been intermittently working as it would throw up an error every few days
Yesterday the management light came on and would not go off no matter how many times i erased the fault code

location of VSC solenoid

VSC solenoid

VSC solenoind part number

Mazda didnt keep the solenoid on stock so i had a trip to the scrap yard and found the same solenoid on a petrol Mazda Exodus 6 total cost £2 :)

i fitted it reconnected the battery and hay presto no management light. a quick check with a obd2 reader showed 0 fault codes

This is a very easy job to do even if you dont really know your way around a spanner

the tools i used where a ratchet with a 10mm socket to remove the plastic engine cover and a flat screwdriver to pop off the tubes connected to the solenoid and to un clip the solenoid from its mount

Thanks for everyones help with this. Hybrids post was very helpful   8)
