Mazda 6 2014 Plastic Oil Pickup
« on: May 18, 2020, 11:47:22 am »
Hi Folks,
Mazda 6 2.2D SkyActive 2014. Had the low oli pressure light on and as I'm on my 2nd engine thought I'd take the sump off and clean the strainer. To be honest, I'd decided after the last time that I should do this periodically, so this is the first time. The engine has 28,000 miles on it and have chaned the oil & filter at 7-8000mile intervals.
So I finally managed to get the sump off and the pickup strainer has a fair bit of crud on it. It's a plastic one like none I've ever seen and it can't come off as one of the bolts seems to have gone in before the rest of the engine was built around it....
It looks like the plastic pickup clips together. If so, this would likely be ideal to clean the mesh, but I don't want to start easing it apart with a screwdriver before checking if anyone has experience with these.
Anyone know if I can take it apart in situ to clean the mesh?
