Hatch problem
« on: January 14, 2013, 11:51:23 am »
Just before Xmas I was rear-ended at low speed. Nonetheless the damage was nearly sufficient for insurers to write the car off. Luckily they didn't.

However, the car came back on Friday and the tail hatch wouldn't support itself. I rang bodyshop and they sent out two new struts. I've fitted them before, its a doddle, however after fitting the hatch still wont support itself. The bodyshop now say they are sending a mechanic to me today......

Apparently they replaced the entire hatch shell and used everything else from my car. I'm baffled. I cannot see a cause. Hopeefully they'll fix it but I expect it'll have to go back to garage....

Anyone on here any suggestions?

Does yours have a spoiler fitted? I think there are uprated struts for the extra weight, other than that all I can think is that they fitted and sent the wrong ones? Hope it's something simple

What was the outcome. The standard struts won't support a hatch with a spoiler - that is for sure. The heavy duty ones are many times the price !
