Brake fluid advice
« on: March 31, 2018, 02:32:06 pm »
So I’m looking to change a caliper due to it continuing to stick after a strip and clean, I have everything but the brake fluid, the recommended Dot3 seems to be like rocking horse teeth in all the shops around me and the Internet searches I’ve been doing all come back saying you can and you can’t use Dot4 to top up the system. Can anyone shed some light on this please?

The fluid was recently changed by Mazda dealer but their workshop is shut and the receipt doesn’t say what grade of fluid they used!

You can use hose clamps and avoid the leak.

If you do not have them, just wait for the dealer to check what fluid they used.

Don't you have to replace both callipers to make sure you stand on the same page on both sides?

So I used a clamp right by the caliper, primed the new caliper with fresh fluid, and the level difference in the reservoir was hardly measurable, I’ll keep an eye on it over the next couple of days. I used a dot 4 that stated it was compatable with Dot3 on the bottle
