Sounds like a pneumatic drill
« on: June 16, 2016, 11:54:34 am »
Ok - first issue I've had with my 6 for 5 years (2,5 sl 2009)
Turned engine ion as usual - on came music as usual then, music went off to be replaced with the sound of a pneumatic drill coming from the top of the dash board speaker

Turned everything off removed discs, still noise, tried all buttons incl volume no difference. switched engine off still noise , got out of car still noise until I used the fob to lock car.
Also same noise starts when I open the drivers door, no need to start the engine - I have now removed a small fuse (25 amp) to stop this.

Does anyone have any ideas, as this will be very costly if I take it to a dealer?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Which fuse did you pull out?

well here's the honest answer - the breakdown repair man pulled it - to stop the noise - all I know is it's a small white 25 amp fuse - and now I've got the interior light on permanent
so looks like I have to take it to a dealer now!!!!!
thanks for replying to post by the way

Sorry can't edit my post - -   the white 25 amp fuse is from slot 20 (BOSE SYSTEM) and the lights are no longer an issue - sorry

It could be a faulty relay that's causing the noise.

cheers bazz - -  can't see any meaningful relay in the fuse board -  so it looks like a part ex on the horizon - - pity cos it's really a great car to drive with all the extras!

If you are changing your car,  surely you'll have to rectify the problem before you get rid. What are you going to get to replace it, anything in mind?

Hey bazz - -  not if its p/x -  :-X

it's difficult because the cars got such a great spec - - its looking at highend audi/bmw/merc

however someone mentioned it's the amplifier that may be screwed, so we'll take a look down that route first.

To continue the story -  for the benefit of anyone who comes across this issue -  It is the amplifier, located under the front passenger seat.
To be continued.

Thought I'd better update for anyone interested and add a conclusion.

The Bose amp located under the passenger seat has known issues, 2 of the components fail, and unfortunately as its a factory sealed/soldered unit it's impossible to repair yourself?

The price of a new one negates the car value, buying 2nd hand is a big risk.

However I found the European Bose repair centre in Edinburgh, at a cost of £172 lifetime repair incl courier return.

A happy ending.
