Facelift taillamps
« on: March 16, 2020, 07:18:30 am »
Hey all, can someone tell me if the taillights are just plug and play to the standard connectors or will I need to modify bulb holders or wiring etc.. I have a 2010 mk2 with standard rear lights. Looking to fit the later version with the led dots.. Any advice appreciated.

I have a 2009 model and it has leds.

So maybe yours is an accident repair or the leds had gone bad and somebody cut some corners and put some normal bulbs on.

But the led/bulb part of the installation should not play any role to the rest of the installation. So you could buy the normal lights and fit them.

Thanks for that apav. Is the led style a sealed unit then with the leds internal.. so it's literally just plug in the connectors ? For some reason it has the normal lights (chrome edge with red lens) even if a 2010... does anyone know the changeover year then ?

Look at life through the windscreen, not the rearview mirror.

Yes any led type of light, is a a throw away part.

I googled "mazda 6 gh rear light"

This company came up on the top:

https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/mazda/6-hatchback-gh/30892/10554/combination-rearlight

I entered the details for a 2.2 165ps car.

It seems that there are three types of lights:

1. Bulb type
2. Led type
3. A combination of the two

I assume all of them should connect to the same plug but they look different. Some of them come with a 4/2010 date. So something happened around this date and the design changed or something.

If both your lights are the same and they work, then you have nothing to worry. If a led had gone, you need to buy the whole unit. In theory you can do open surgery to the old unit but if you do not know your way around, you may be better off with a new unit.

If you just want to change the lights for a different look, I suppose you could cross check with the shops and find out whether they fit. They have part numbers on the website.

Excellent cheers. Hopefully just swap full unit for led unit and plug in then. Thanks
