Only just recently started happening, but is becoming more frequent.
Go to start car and nothing happens. I get all the normal dash lights, but no sounds, no warning lights or beeps.
Turn car off and then back on again. Some times it will start, other times I get a horrible sounds just like if you are trying to start the engine again when it's already started. (hope that makes sense).
When engine does start. Sounds & runs fine. no problem.
Could this be the starter motor, fuel filter or something else?
Thanks all and hope you all have a happy new year.

Yes it could be the starter motor.
The fuel filter needs replacing every thing service and checking for water at every service. I replace at every second service. I do not think this can cause any noise as the engine runs fine when it runs.

I recently had the same problem with my previous Mazda 6. It was unitially diagnosed as a dodgy battery. However turned out to be the negative lead on the battery creating intermittent earthing problems.

Is it a clicking sound ? If so it is more than likely to be your battery on the way out. The clicking sounds are the relays trying to close to enable starting.
