2013 Mazda 6 first drive.
« on: December 14, 2012, 05:28:18 pm »
Had a go in a new 6 this morning, it was the 165 petrol Sport Tourer in Soul Red.

I was invited by Mazda to try one at my local dealer (RRG Stockport) prior to it going on sale next month.

I parked my current 59 plate Sport estate next to it and the new one is bigger, not so much in length but in width. They didn't have the diesel available yet but the petrol one is very smooth. I would need to drive a current petrol 6 to see if its any better though.

The interior is a HUGE step up in quality over the old one, its more conventional than groundbreaking but the quality of the cabin materials is a massive leap forward.

There are a few things that I think could be improved, first is the lack of a proper footrest for your right foot when you have it on cruise control and the boot light is still on the tailgate and not actually inside the boot, so you block the light when you reach into the boot at night. Small niggles but annoying nonetheless.

Fingers crossed its on my list next year when mine is up for renewal.

If you have a company car from what I've read its going to be a choice for many next year due to emissions.

Yeah 150 Diesel sport for me when it's time to change. Mind you, those crazy Germans are way ahead on emissions, just a shame the cars are so expensive.

They aren't that far ahead now. The new 6 has great emission figures.

Quick look at the new 6 sitting in the showroom. Quality, fit and finish is streets ahead of the previous models.

Well I have got the company car list through and the new 6 is on it. Going to go for either the 150 or 175 Sport Nav Tourer with the safety pack. Not sure on which colour.

Work out £25 per month a cheaper than my current 59 plate Sport 2.2.

Ah! I have fond memories of my company cars JBC. Brand new car delivered to your door by a man in a clean overall. In '98 my brand spanking Merc. C class sport was delivered replete with two crystal wine goblets engraved with the Merc and garage logo. Best experience was in 1990 though. A white Granada Ghia "on the G" delivered in the first week in January. Looked an absolute treat against the snow! Enjoy the experience - if you ever retire you will find it irritating putting your hand in your pocket for the odd 20K!

By the time I get to retirement age the government will have raised it to 120 years old.

Well in that case stick with Mazda. It may count in your favour when you retire. By then the Asiatic countries will own the economy, the world and your pension fund :). By the way, when you take delivery of your brand new 6 will you please detach the Aurora blue spoiler from your present car and put it in the post to me. Many thanks!

The original deal for company cars delivered new and all spotless as part of your salary, car fully expens ed with fuel and repairs included. was great. The day they started benefit in kind tax on them and the fuel took the shine from the deal. Last one I had before I retired it was found cheaper all round to put you own fuel in. Cost you less.!

I have not got a fuel card so I have to claim my business mileage at 18p a mile. This is another reason to get the 6 as it qualifies for the higher fuel rate as its over 2.0ltrs.

Its cheaper on tax for me not to have a fuel card as I don't do enough personal miles to justify having one.
