UK car Tax (VED) April 2017
« on: January 15, 2017, 12:38:40 pm »
All,

I know car tax aka Vehicle Excise Duty is changing in the UK in April 2017. I believe it's for cars bought after April 2017 but what if you buy a 2nd hand car registered in the 2016 after April 2017 ? Will that push it into the new car tax rules in the UK ?

Just looked at the official line

"All cars registered before then will come under the current system for life."

I am sure what this is saying that the above scenario will fall under the current taxation rules so a 2.2 Mazda 6 Manual 175bhp will be £20 a year ?

Look at life through the windscreen, not the rearview mirror.

Perfect thanks Will.
Yes cars registered before 1 April are uneffeted by the rules, which is good news as I am looking at moving to a Mazda 6 sport Nav 2.2 in April but a pre-registered one.

This new VED is so strange. Others countries updated their existing emissions tables to reflect the more efficient cars. The flat rate does not seem very fair.
