MAZDA 6 2.5L PETROL L5 ENGINE 170 BHP 2008-2010
« on: November 06, 2019, 04:52:08 pm »
Does anyone know if there is any difference between the above engine and the same engine fitted to a Mazda 6 Sport manufactured in 2007, but first registered in the UK in January 2008?  If so, are the differences internal or external?  The correct engine for my chassis apparently has a model code GG/GY.  Is this code stamped on the engine anywhere and, if so, where?  Thanks for any advice.  J@z

Yes it is the same engine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_L_engine#2.5_L_(L5-VE)

The second generation car started production on August 2017.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda6#Second_generation_(GH1;_2007%E2%80%932012)

The Sport classification does not mean anything. It is just some extras the dealers decide to have in this specification.

The second generation internal classification code is GH.

The code GG refers to the first generation cars. These cars never had the 2.5 engine but a previous version of that egnine which was 2.3

The code GY is used again for the first genetation cars to refer to the station wagon version while the GG is used for the saloon and the hatchback versions.

The engine must have a stamped code unless it is stolen/etc. It should be like on the V5 consisting of the internal code engine and the unique ID. So if you change the engine, you need to update your V5 because the unique ID will be different.
