Roof trim strip / roof bars
« on: May 09, 2017, 12:54:23 pm »
In the Summer I'll be looking to temporarily fit some roof bars to my 2014 Mazda 6 Saloon to carry some bits and pieces for our holiday. On my car's roof there are a couple of long plastic strips that run for pretty much the whole length of the roof. They're not particularly solid and my guess is that these need to be removed to expose the fitting points that will allow me to attach the roof bars.

Does anyone know how to safely remove these long strips? They don't look very substantial and look like they'd probably just snap / clip off, but I don't want to risk breaking anything if that's not right as they'll be going back on after the holiday.

Many thanks in advance.

Just had a quick look around on the web and came across this :

https://www.caraccessoriesplus.co.uk/product/mazda-6-saloon-roof-rackbars/MGHK1V4701

I'm sure that there are cheaper alternatives out there so I won't necessarily be buying these, but the pictures seem to suggest that I don't need to remove the long strips after all.

Is anyone able to confirm? Thanks.

This is the second generation car. I have the same car, in the same colour and it has plastic cover at these points. You can slide them and they come off. Your car must have something similar.

I cannot find any photos on mr google but thule has the products in their web site:

https://www.thule.com/en-gb/gb/buyers-guide?c=roof+racks&q=P7dnPEUYv

You car is code named GJ.

There are photos online from the Mazda 3 that show the roof bars fitted with the black stripes in place, e.g.:

I assume that this generation of 3 must be similar to your 6.

If fitting is not described in your manual, maybe the dealer will know more about it.
