Hi everyone,

I had a service done recently for my 2013 Mazda 6 2.2 Sport Nav Tourer, and the Mazda garage said the front and back discs are corroded and need replacing.

They want £455 for the parts and labour, and I think I could save quite a bit of money if I bought the discs myself and got them fitted by a good local mechanic.

The problem is that I'm not exactly sure what disc specs to go for, and how much to trust the "parts recommendation" based on Reg Plate on sites such as EuroCarParts or eBay.

Does anyone know the exact spec I should be going with?
As for a brand, I was thinking of going with Pagid, unless someone would like to advise me otherwise.

Many thanks for the help!

You mention the discs are the problem, when my 6 was in for service the discs being marked was brought up but the dealer I used said you might as well change them when you have the linings changed.
That was three or so years ago, still on the same linings.
Don't know if it's the same situation with your car, but worth a thought.!

Yeah, maybe I don't need to replace them now, but in the maintenance video they sent me they did seem quite corroded and because I'm the car's second owner, I don't want to risk problems that may have originated with the first owner.

Would really appreciate if someone could tell me where I can find the right specs for the brake discs!

These are the ones I was thinking of getting for the front:

and for the back:

I regretted replacing mine but it is your call. If you replace the discs, you will need to replace the pads at the same time. I would trust that the discs from the online shops are the right ones. You can check with Mazda. Euro Car Parts has a sister company Car Parts 4 Less which sells the same discs, same codes, etc, for less money:

https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Mazda_6_2.2_2013/p/car-parts/brake-friction/car-brakes/brake-discs/?104680958&1&6090ef22db0fa72bbc595f4cf6155ef646f8ad81&000027

£42.22 the front discs instead of £63.99

https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Mazda_6_2.2_2013/p/car-parts/brake-friction/car-brakes/brake-discs/?104680978&1&006ccf644ebae302b21c24dbb48385525c630749&000027

£26.80 for the back discs instead of £40.99

They will with the Euro Car Parts stickers on them but the invoice will be from Car Parts 4 Less. Also, use the promotion codes they have on their main page to get an additional discount, 15% they advertise now.

Thanks, I had forgotten about that!
It's only a £20 difference given that the main site has 35% off at the moment, but that's still a saving.

I'm just going to call Mazda to confirm the sizes are right, and then buy the goods.

Cheers

Eurocarparts rarely get brake specs wrong.

Put Black Diamond combi (drilled/grooved) discs on mine and also bought their corresponding predator pads for my older 6 GH.  I replaced the rear pads after 25,000miles and the discs were fine.

I couldn't afford the Black Diamond pads this time around, but I wasn't impressed with their long term performance as brake fade was all too apparent.

I bought a genuine Ferodo set instead off an Amazon seller for £19 instead of the typical £36.  You can check the correct parts from the Ferodo website.

I can vouch for the quality of Ferodo and their pads as they often exceed the OEM quality and spec. with a higher average friction coefficients than almost every pad alternative. When I used to be a boy racer, I could swear by their DS2500 and 3000 pads.  Any their regular eco pads are just as good.

I have done 44k and only just changed the front pads, they still had a 2mm left before they needed changing. The rear pads should hardly wear as soon as you brake the weight is transferred to the front of the car, so the rear brakes be they pads or shoes hardly do any work. If you have to change the rears after 25k  then they are either sticking or your handbrake is on or you are too heavy on the brakes.
Take your foot off the accelerator earlier and allow the egine to slow you down, but this means not riding on the car in fronts rear bumper, which seems to be the bad habit of the young these days.  You do not arrive any quicker.

I upgraded my front disks to EBC and fitted green stuff pads, made the brakes feel brilliant.
