I`m not sure what happened to the old forum but with the advent of this new forum does this mean that we have lost all the information which had been accrued over the years on the old forum?

Hi Sapper

I'm afraid the old forum became severely infected by some malevolent spam and became totally unusable.  Regrettably it affected all previous topics and posts from all members to such a degree that it was impossible to rectify.
This new forum has been created with new safeguards so that this might be prevented from happening again.
I'm sure that we can rebuild the forum to an even higher standard than before.

What a bummer eh :(

Looks like we've got a lot of rebuilding to do!

P.s. Willpower = neeldub?

Hi Ross

LOL  No, not Neeldub.  I was one of the founder members of the Mazda3 forum with Neel back in 2007.
I have been asked just to keep an eye on the security of the site during it's rising from the ashes so to speak.
But if you have any problems or questions please do not hesitate to contact me,  willpower@mazda3forums.co.uk
or Neel of course

Looks like its started again already. There was a huge amount of bots signing up to the previous forum every day, I got fed up of getting new member emails lol. Could it be a backdoor issue on the server where they're bypassing the registration process and going straight into the database ? I also noticed when I clicked new security image for registration it was the same letters just displayed differently ?

this is very alarming indeed.. i keep having this problem where a bot registers multiple accounts.. i've temporarily switched the registration to admin approval.. so you guys can approve genuine members..

I actually had this today whilst I was trying to sign up again.  I misread the bot thing at the bottom, and the page refreshed.  I keyed in the info again and noticed the letters were the same, but I missed the are you a bot question, so i had to start over again, and it still had the same letters.

Anyhoo, time to get the ball rolling possibly.

Glad to see the Forum is up and running again but a huge amount of advice and information has been lost. Is there really no way of recovering blocks of the original text and reposting it?

I believe that everything was lost. It is a crime I agree. The same thing occurred with the Mazda3 forum about 3 years ago. That has been successfully rebuilt and is now flourishing once again. As long as we make a concerted effort to keep Spammers out of the forum, then at least that is one problem covered.
To that end I would ask of anyone spotting a suspicious item to use the "report to moderator button"  or to PM any one of the moderators with the details.

I am also available on email at  willpower@mazda3forums.co.uk
