Scratched steering wheel
« on: March 24, 2017, 08:42:16 am »
Morning all, I just bought a 2008 Mazda 6 Sport 2.5l.

Very, very happy with the car. It has a few minor nicks on the outside but the interior is in REALLY good condition.

One of the few minor things I've found is that the steering wheel has some quite large scratches on it, I've found a similar looking wheel on the web and highlighted the area where these scratches are.

Looks like some kid has scratched the paint off with a key or something. They're not too deep.

Was just wondering if anyone has had any luck touching this area up with any paint or bought something to hide the area so I don't have to look at it?

Many thanks for the help.

You can buy a refurbished wheel, but not cheap.

Thanks for that. I always assumed that it's VERY difficult to replace a steering wheel because of the air bag?

Was hoping for something a bit simpler than this, maybe some kind of cover.

You can buy a used wheel on ebay for roughly £50-60 and transfer your airbag on to it and fit. Its a simple enough job to do, just make sure to disconnect the battery before swapping airbags.

I believe the eBay supplier use to sell the cover, perhaps phone them or drop them a message.

I think it is normal for the paint to come off depending on the treatment it gets, e.g. holding phone, keys, etc. Even that last steering wheel, it has the silver paint destroyed at the cruise control area. How about repainting it?
