MAZDA 6 2.2 DIESEL 2009-REPLACEMENT ENGINE REQUIRED?
« on: May 07, 2015, 02:16:55 pm »
I bought my 2.2 Diesel from a main Mazda dealer last September with 69,000 mileage & a 12 month warranty,on 2 occasions earlier this year the EML & DPF warning lights have come on,it was taken back to the garage who did a regen to clear the fault codes & although they said it was a maintenance problem (at my expense)they fixed it on both occasions free as a goodwill gesture.
I now have a mileage of 80,000 and the engine sounds like a tank with 800 rpm at tickover,it is back with the garage who say it probably needs a new engine & the warranty may not cover it
so I should enquire about costs to replace it myself but surely the 'mechanical failure' element of the warranty covers the cost of supplying & fitting of a replacement new/recon engine?

What's the point of a warranty if it does not cover the engine? You need to look at the warranty contract in detail to see what it says. The garage may just be trying to wriggle out of what will be very expensive repair. You may need to argue with them if there is any doubt.

The warranty states that 'all mechanical factory-fitted components are covered against mechanical failure'!

Sounds like you have a very good case on those terms. Might be worth talking to trading standards if the dealer keeps trying to get out of repairing the car to acceptable standard. Or they can take it back and refund your money.!!

The Warranty company sent an independent assessor who confirmed that a new engine is required but queried what caused the damage but as I had already taken the car back twice with warning lights problems they & the dealer have agreed to cover the bill.It has taken 3 weeks so far & it will be up to 2 weeks before I get the car back, the uncertainty has been very stressful but the outcome is satisfactory!

I'm pleased you have the outcome you wanted, which to my mind, is the right one both legally and morally.

Good result in the end, just a pity you had all the agro and stress to get there.
Hope that when you get the car back you can have a good few years without any further problems.

After 6 weeks at the garage,I picked up the car today but they advised to fit a new clutch while fitting the new engine which cost over ?1,000 at my expense as it was a 'wear & tear' item & not covered by the warranty.I hope that I now have a low maintenance, expense free period!

Expensive clutch as they had the engine out already. However, at least you have a new engine and clutch now. I hope all is well from now on.

Bad news, the car went back in the garage last Saturday, the pulley bolt for the alternator sheared off breaking the belt & causing a coolant leak, fortunately had a positive prompt response from the warranty company who have accepted the claim for a new bolt & the dealer is paying for a new belt, hope to have the car back this week & then have an overdue trouble free time?

That is not good. That 2.2d is not the greatest engine in turns out. 😔
