I have Mazda 6 Estate 2014 diesel and whilst on the motorway two weeks ago a SCBS warning light appeared on the outward bound journey on the motorway and disappeared at restart initially on the return journey until travelling on the motorway for 5 mins but this time SCBS warning light & Engine inspection require light. When reached home and turned off and on the SCBS warning light disappeared and but Engine inspection light remained.

A friend checked the error message and it was a Turbo low boost and he clear the message and the car has ran ok for two weeks as I have not used the motorway. Used the motorway yesterday and the same thing has happened again.

The turbo doesn't really kick in until 2500 revs and it does feel a little sluggish, I am suspecting either DPF fault or Turbo fault possibly does anyone have any ideas?

cheers Pete

Does SCBS stand for Smart City Brake Support?

http://www.mazda.com/en/innovation/technology/safety/precrash_safety/sbs/

That can be a dirty sensor. Somebody had written something about it and needed to change some part.

The Engine Management Light could be related to the turbo. You will need to check that. Also, some of the first cars had problematic engines. So this could trigger EML. Check the turbo to a specialist and then take it from there. A pipe feeding to the turbo may have come off or there is something serious like an oil feed has destroyed it. If you have something serious like that, don’t just fix the turbo, but start with the root of the problem by fixing the oil quality problem, which could lead to new injector seals and cleaning the oil pick up.

The DPF should not be related to the turbo boost.

Thanks,

I will take it to a local turbo specialist as turbo does kick in 2500 revs. I think these cars have twin turbo that is switched with a vac driven solenoid and fingers cross its just that or the turbo will be an expensive job. I will check the tubes tonight though just in case.

cheers mate

Hi There,
I have just joined this forum and one of the first items I see is exactly the same problem I am having, but as your last post was 3rd Sept, I wonder if you solved the problem yet?

My car is a 2014 2.2D Sport Nav which I bought in August 2017 and has only now done 35, 500 miles. I got it to replace a Honda Accord 2.2D which I had from new and had over 120,000 on the clock during which time I had not suffered any engine problems. I expected similar performance from the Mazda.

The first indication of anything occurred in late August about 2 weeks after having it serviced (by Mazda dealer), I was on the M3 going to H/Row early morning to go on holiday when a message appeared that SCBS inspection was required and it also disabled cruise control. I left it in the car park at H/Row and when I came back about 10 days later the message was cleared so I put it down to a glitch or that it was raining heavily when the message appeared. I had no further problems for a couple of weeks then whist returning home from Devon on bright sunny day it happened again. Once more after stopping, switching the engine off and restarting all was OK.

Finally last week I was just joining the A429 dual carriageway off the M4 junction and as I passed I truck I noticed a significant drop in power, then I got the SCBS message again. After stopping the other side of Swindon for a few hours when I restarted the message had cleared but the power loss remained, until the engine got to 2,500 rpm then it surged away as normal. When this happened,  a message ‘engine requires inspection’ appeared. As it did not say stop I drove it back home and next day called the Mazda dealer . They were too busy to check it for several days so I asked my local garage, who I know and has looked after my cars for 25+ years if he would check it. We discovered that the problem is the smaller of the 2 turbo’s – hence the surge at 2,500rpm when the large one kicks in - which has been damaged by the by-pass flap which has dropped. Because we are of the opinion that this should not happen on an engine with such a low mileage the car is now at the Mazda dealers and I am waiting to see what response Mazda has to my request that they should fix it their cost.

Needless to say at the moment I am not a happy chappie!! So if anyone else reads this about an SCBS message they have displayed, I suggest you get the turbo checked asap.

Ken

I just heard back from Mazda that they are going to fix my car FOC, using a new Turbo unit with a modified by-pass flap. Bad news is new units are still in transit from Japan and won't be available for about 10 days. At least I don't have to spend a fortune now!
I hope you get yours sorted.

Did you contact the local dealer? Sounds like they know this is an issue.

Just an update, I have just received a Recall notice to do with the engine management system so its booked in with the local dealer on the 16th November.

I did take to a local garage and they seemed to think it was a boost pressure sensor and said they ordered one but it was the wrong one & was going to get one from mazda. That was aweek ago and not heard anything so I am not holding my breath on that one.

Going to see what mazda come up with as the engine management recall is to prevent the engine from stuttering but did go into great detail.

Hi Ken,

Took my car in and the turbo is faulty due a rivet falling off inside the bypass flap, did you contact mazda directly for them to do the FOC turbo replacement?

cheers Pete

Hi Ken,

Just to update you that Mazda have replaced my Turbo & de-coked my car for free under their good will policy.

Thanks for all your help and advice as I used your case to back up my argument that the turbo had a manufacturer fault.

cheers Peter

I had the same issue last week scbs and a p**** code with no boost, I took it to Mazda Crayford to be diagnosed, it's done 107000 miles on a 63 plate and had a new turbo 3000 miles ago, the scbs and amber eml with red triangle all came on together, the dealer diagnosed 2 non related issues, the radar camera and a possible boost solenoid issue. The parts were on back order so I asked the dealer to deal direct with Mazda with not much hope to be honest, Mazda came back and under the goodwill policy agreed to decoke the engine and replace all 3 turbo solenoids free of chrage which surprised me, I was fed up with the car so managed to build up to 50mph and held it in third gear building to 70, after around 20 minutes the amber light flashed and the car took off with full boost when I stopped the car and restarted it everything went out and it's been fine, I've put the issue down to poor quality fuel as i've put 2 bottles of injector cleaner in it and it hasn't happened again, I normally use reputable fuel but had to put supermarket fuel in, the car is still waiting to go in for the work.
