Second Year Service Cost
« on: July 20, 2012, 07:15:45 pm »
I have today made contact with my nearest two Mazda dealers to check the cost of the 2nd year service. The dealer where I bought the car has quoted me £235 all in. The dealer that was cheapest last year has quoted £285.10. A big difference I think for the same work. It certainly pays to shop around.

That is a lot more than the first year service costs on a 2 ltr Petrol,(£150.00 all in )
What extra work do they do for the second year ? First year list printout I received looked
to cover most things.!

That's a good question, which I can't answer at the moment. I suspect it won't be a lot more for the extra money. What was interesting though, was that when I asked the question of the cheaper dealer he quoted me £135 at first, but then realised he had not included labour, which then pushed the price up to £235. So what bits does £135 buy. I can't imagine!!! Also how much time does £100 buy. A rip off probably, but I'm reluctant to move to an independent garage until the warranty has expired.

Will be very interesting to see what they do for the money. Keep us posted, mine is due early next year and like you would be reluctant to move away from Mazda garage till the Warranty is out.Plan to get third service and MOT in the month before warranty expires.

Just had a look on Car Focus site re Mazda service costs, they refer to a minor service and a major service, also quotes prices from 5 diferent Mazda garages. Prices for 1st year to second and subsequent years are about £60/£80.00 above first year costs.Could this be the answer, minor service first, Major after that?

That is the usual pattern, yes.

To carry the thread on, I've just had my second year service at £235 with fuel system treatment thrown in, I was amazed to find out that they don't change the air filter!!! So after 2 years and 18000 miles they reckon it doesn't need to be changed! Bonkers, therefore I went and bought myself a k&n panel filter for £40 which will last the lifetime of the car with the odd clean every 40000 miles or so!

On the subject of service costs, my 6 is due its fourth annual service soon and I have toyed with the idea of taking it to a local independent garage. However, as I understand it, when you change the oil or empty the ash tray, some gizmo has to be reset or the car wont run properly. So, basically my question is; can a Mazda 6 be safely serviced by a local garage who may not have all the computer wizardry of a main dealer? :-\

I don't think there is an issue with the petrol engine. It seems the diesel engines are the ones that need to be reset or they can go in to limp mode. The only issue would be if you are worried about maintaining the Mazda electronic service record. For my money, once the car is over the three years warranty period then any garage can undertake the servicing works. As long as you keep the invoices for the service work, you should have no problem when you come to sell the car on.

I think the information is available these days. Ask them. The independent I use has all the right stuff, and can access/update the Mazda digital service record.

When I said £120, what vI really meant was £132 !! Oops. Did include brake fluid change too (at only 11 months old, but it is on the Mazda schedule for 2 years service !)

I've just been quoted £324 for the 2nd year service at my local dealer. This is for the petrol model. I wasn't expecting it to be quite this high to be honest  :(. I'd be interested to hear what other have recently payed for their 2nd year service.
