Red oil can symbol on dash
« on: July 02, 2019, 11:41:33 pm »
If I understand correctly this is the oil pressure warning light?

It came on this a.m. it was red when I saw it does it glow Orange first?

Anyway... by the time I got to a safe place to pull over (about 1 mile) power was dying and as i pulled over the engine stalled and wouldn't start.  Checked oil... all ok as expected as only serviced 4 months ago by main dealer. So something failed pretty fast and catastrophically!

Car is worth about £3k max. Can anyone give me any hope it is economically repairable?

You can have plenty of oil in the car and still get the low oil pressure light. First thought would be oil pump

So it turned out to be terminal as the main bearing was knackered.  Loss of oil pressure due to a build up of carbon in the sump blocking a filter.  Very disappointed this does not appear to be looked at in regular maintenance checks (previous service only 4 months earlier) or built up very quickly. >:(

Car now scrapped!
 :(

Very bad news

How long did you have it and how often did you replace the oil?

How much mileage did it have in total?

If you read the regular maintenance in the owners manual, it is just fluid changes and tick boxes

I have the impression that these cars, even if they are finely tuned, they have very long service intervals

So over the years, there is a lot of dirt building up

Somewhere I noticed that the Australian cars get 10K km service intervals and I bet this is not just because of the heat and the dust

In the UK, I think only Toyota has 10K miles service intervals and everybody else goes for much longer intervals
