Couple of questions on these - do they have a guide-me-home function at all and should that have sidelights too? There's the option for this on the stalk and I assumed it would be a legal requirement too. Unless both of mine aren't working (recently bought the car)?

I do not have that spec, but it sounds unlikely? Check with the manual if it came with the car?

But for sure there is no legal requirement for this thing. It is just an accessory.

From a quick search about guide me home for Mazda 6 GH it returns results abou the GJ car.

But there are some people who talk about second generation cars that can be altered via the dealer diagnostics.

So maybe this thing exists but you will have to pay money to activate it.

Post a photo of your stalk. If it is something like this:

Then the auto means turning on the dash lights on when it is dark. These cars came from the factory with the lights always on but at some point there were changes for the auto function to turn them on and off as well.
