Ticking / Clicking Noise On Engine Start with No A/C
« on: June 18, 2020, 11:57:42 am »
Hello all

Had my Mazda 6 TS2 2009 Estate Diesel 2.2 for around three months. Have had some routine work done but there is a slight niggle that I’d like to solve.

When starting the engine , and when it fires, there is a clicking noise that seems to come from the glovebox. I assume this where the fuse box is. This happens only if the AC is not on. The sound is loud and lasts for around 5 seconds.

If the AC was left on and the engine fires, there is no ticking noise. If after starting with the AC in and I drive, and later turn the AC off, the noise comes on for the same intensity and duration.

I’ve not looked at the fuses but just wondered if anyone knew what might cause this?

Thanks.

Sounds like a relay clicking on and off repeatedly.

Hi mate. I’ve just fixed this problem on my 2008 Mazda 6. It’s the heater flap actuator motor. Take the glove box and rear cover off. For ease of access I also removed the white directional blower cover. Then there is a relay box vertically attached to a bracket. That slides down and off. Then to the left of that is the offending object. It’s held on with 3 screws and you will need the shortest x head screw driver you have. It’s a right pain to do.
You can fix the faulty item, but I just bought one from eBay for £15.
I’ll try n post some pics.
Hope this helps.
