DMF & Crank angle sensor
« on: January 26, 2018, 02:33:51 pm »
Hi Guys
I would like to challenge the collective Knowledge of the Forum?

I am Fixing My son-in-laws Mazda 6 08 plate 2.0 l estate RF engine type as it had a worn and leaking rear crank seal

My question is does anybody know how to align the DMF up so it triggers the crank sensor properly

Many thanks
Bruce

Not done that particular engine, but usually they are either located with a dowel so it only goes on one way, or symetrical so it doesnt mater which way you bolt it on

Sadly there is no evidence of a dowel on the crankshaft only the hole on the DMF, sadly I cleaned both surfaces and wiped away any ghost image left by the hole!

I am hoping if I position the engine TDC and fit the DMF with the start of the gap in the teeth level with the sensor it will work? as there are only 8 bolts holding the DMF on
I have a 1 in 8 chance???

If you cannot find any information of how this should go, maybe try speaking with a main dealer
service department of even Mazda UK. They should have some knowledge.

Ref main dealer

You would like think they had the information and be willing to share it, but the answer I got was

Bring it here and we will get a proper technician to do it! as they deemed it too complicated for mere
mortals to manage? (stuck up and arrogant reply in my opinion)

Yes typical answer from a dealer.  Not that they would know  without looking it up.
I would hardly call them technicians, they are just mechanics  and cannot go far without looking at the laptop or asking their service manager.
If you have tackled the job and asked such a question then obviously you know what you are  doing, but aware of pitfalls  and asked the question.
Is there  a  Haynes manual out on that model yet.  There are some workshop manuals on this forum  you might want to check. Good luck.
