USB not recognised - I phone is ?
« on: March 20, 2019, 02:08:29 pm »
Hi All,
Newbie here as I'm looking at a Mazda 6 Sport Nav Estate - 16/66 plate (unless you tell me otherwise  :D)

I recently viewed a saloon at a dealer and my iPhone was recognised in both USB ports, and music played with album covers -all good.

However, a USB stick with MP3 tracks was not detected in either port...…. which would suggest it's the stick, or the format but it works perfectly well in the Mondeo i'm bumbling around in.

Any ideas ??

It has to be a USB memory stick 2.0 - not 3.0 perhaps?

Thanks. Excuse my ignorance. Do they need USB 3 to function ? (I do have one at work I will borrow to check)

I used a memory stick to update the Gracenote software, but unless the stick had a full format as FAT32 ( a quick format at FAT32 did not work either) perhaps the same problem with playing music
I love to drive my car but has too many issues

Hi
I have an IPHONE and always use the blue tooth connection and the music plays great that way, I have to use the power socket to keep the phone charged, and I suppose you use the USB to keep the phone charged as well as playing music

I had similar issues when attempting to use USB sticks to play music in my 2017 model. The sticks had to be formatted in a particular one of FAT, exFAT or FAT32 in order to be read correctly. Sorry, I can't recall off the top of my head which one worked in the end but that was the solution. I'm sure with a quick process of elimination you will be able to find which one. Note that even after that, not all connected USB sticks might be detected on every car start-up but, when it works, it's a great way to have a lot of music available on the go via the Mazda Connect system
