Which tyres do you recommend??
« on: December 01, 2015, 09:25:25 pm »
I'm due some new tyres soon,  which would you recommend? I'm currently running the Michelin super sport at £140 a corner.

I'm thinking of any of these but open to suggestions.

Kumho KU 39's
Ventus v12 evo2 k120
Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

I've fitted Barum tyres to my 2010 Sport and find them fine. A higher spec than required and much better than the original Dunlops. They cost £100 per tyre through the National Tyre web site Tyreshopper.co.uk.

What rating have they got for wet grip, noise and fuel efficiency?

Just checked their web site for the info which is as follows. Tyre size 225/45/18 the fuel economy is E, wet is C, noise is 72dB, speed rating Y and load 95Y. The tyre's full name is Barum Bavuris 3HM and costs £85.73 each at the moment. Even cheaper than I paid last year for two and the year before for two.
I know the economy rating is not high, but what does that equate to? Balancing this against the cost of the tyre there is no competition, at least you know you are saving money when you buy at a keen price.

Well I had new tyres fitted.  They only had Pirelli cinturato p7s in as I couldn't get there till Christmas eve and that's all they had in stock.

They seem a lot noisier than the Michelin super sports that I had fitted before. Could this be because they are run flats?

From what i have heard all run flats are noisey and give a harder ride two people i know have taken them off for that reason alone. One is a tyre dealer took them off his BMW 335d reckons it drives a treat now. Sorry to put a spanner in the works but on the good side the do run flat and as it's the way it is with spare wheels unless you have a proper spare your not in such a bad position.Hope this helps.
cheers steve.

I have noticed that they are louder and seem to be a bit harsher on speed bumps etc. My mate had run flats on his BMW 550 and took them off for the same reasons. I guess I'm stuck with them for now, wonder if they'll be better suited to the rear.
