Just put a deposit down on a 2009 - 09 plate Mazda6 Sport
« on: December 19, 2011, 07:24:38 am »
Hi guys this is my first post on here and any help or advice is really apreciated.

I've just put a deposit down on a 2009 09reg 2.2d Mazda6 Sport 183. Really like the car..love the power  8)
Is there anything i should be wary of or look out for?
I've read up on the DPF issue, but from what i've read it seems this is more of a problem with the 2.0d rather that the 2.2d - (correct me if i'm wrong)

cheers

There are many owners of 2.2d engines that have had DPF issues, just make sure all your driving is not just stop/start city driving. The DPF likes a good run out to regenerate. Also make sure your TPMS valves have been changed under warranty to the new type, the old ones were snapping off at the threaded part.
Apart from these, your M6 should be pretty bullit proof, hope you enjoy.  :D

A lot of the reported DPF problems on the 2.2D were due to a faulty set of sensors being fitted to later cars than the one you are buying, Otherwise, as said above, a regular run at speed seems to keep the car running sweetly. So far I have had no problems with my 59 plate 2.2D TS2 which has now done just over 15k. However I think the 183 engine is a bit more delicate than my 163 as it is pushing out more power and operating nearer to its limits, I think it has a different turbo fitted too.

Just a further point; it's likely that your car would have been fitted with the original cam chain which is prone to stretching, see here:http://www.mazda6forums.co.uk/newforum/index.php?topic=29.0

These can require replacing after 25k which is normally still within th warranty period. So you need to get yours checked and if it hasn't been done then get it fixed or an assurance that you won't have to pay for the work if it does become necessary.

Your dealer should have picked this up already but....

Really?  I've not seen the problem relating to 2.2d engines on this forum - they all seem to have been older 2.0d engines.  I covered 9.5K last year, normally at the rate of about 100 miles a week with the odd 600 mile weekend.  No problems at all so far with the dpf (except it kills the fuel economy when it does a force regen).

The were mentioned on the old  (alas, lost) Forum. When the last facelift took place many cars (particularly the Sport models it seem) were fitted with faulty sensors and Mazda did not have replacements so quite a few were off the road for extended periods and people got very cross about it. These cars will have been fixed by now so it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

The problem with the sensors affected the facelift 2.2D. The DPF issue is a different problem and this mainly affected the earlier 2.0D. Not heard of a 2.2 with a DPF problem..........yet ;-)

If it's not been fixed the car won't go! The faulty sensors all showed up within 1000 miles or so on new cars which is what got people annoyed! If your car is going OK then it should continue to do so but there should be a record in the service history I would have thought.

Picked it up on Tuesday....love it  8)
A bit power and decent economy.
Lots of the neighbours have commented on it saying it looks the biz.

But i've lost it for a week...its gone back to Mazda for the timing chain recall :'(
