2015 M6 SportNav - Wheels peeling
« on: February 07, 2016, 09:48:41 pm »
Cleaning the car today and a 10p sized piece of paint/lacquer flaked off one of the rear wheels. Before I took delivery of the car the dealer also replaced one of the front wheels under warranty due to large patches missing. Anyone able to comment on whether this is common occurrence or have any experience of warranty claims in this respect. Mileage is <10K and there was previously no noticeable surface damage to the wheels although the rears have an inconsistent speckled look under the lacquer.

Thanks

Regrettably it is a common occurrence, Not only on Mazda 6 , but also Mazda 3, BMW's and Audi's

Look at life through the windscreen, not the rearview mirror.

A few years ago a workmate bought a 2.5 years old M6, then discovered bubbling on the alloys a while later (but still just within the 3 years)  A trip to the dealer and, after the mandatory wait while they made a decision, the alloys were replaced.
Hope this helps :)

If there are issues under the lacquer then it becomes a manufacturing defect, get them changed. One thing to remember is as long as your alloys have not been damaged i.e. kerbing damage , then they should replace them

When I claimed for my bubbling alloys the dealer had taken several photos of each alloy to send to Mazda UK .Thankfully all where replaced understand warranty. Even the one with no corrosion bubble was replaced, dealer highlighted that it would eliminate any potential colour mismatch .

I had this corrosion problem with my previous series 1 Mazda 6 after 2.5years. The wheels had been kerbed, but that didn't matter as they were all replaced under warranty. I am really surprised that it's still an issue with the latest model. My series 2 car wheels seem OK after 5.5 years.

Thanks for the info all. When I get some time I'll give the dealer a call and see how things work out.

Washed the car today and noticed a patch on both nearside wheels where the coating on the wheels has come away. The car hasn't been kerbed and this is the first time I've noticed it. The car is still under warranty as less than three years old and has full Mazda service history (previously dealers demonstrator before I bought it), so will ring the dealer tomorrow to see what they say.

I had all my wheels replaced under warranty when the car was about 2 years old. (2010) Sadly, within 18 months, the new ones started to bubble and the car is now well out of warranty!!!!! You would have thought that they would have sorted the problem out by now!!!! :-[

Took me a while to actually get round to speaking to the dealer about this and then 8 months to actually get the wheels delivered, but they were replaced without issues (eventually). Actually, I'm glad the replacements were delayed, as I managed to kerb 3 of them over a single weekend a month before they were replaced (up until then I'd had 12 months without a scratch)  :D

I am new to this Mazda 6 Forums. I found this discussion thread via Google search initially.

Anyway, I have exactly the same issue as you have described. My Mazda 6 Sport Nav 175PS Diesel in Soul Red with 19"Dark Metal Alloys (delivered June 2015) <10,000 miles. I absolutely love the car but noticed last weekend that large chunks of wheel lacquer was missing from all four wheels and other areas clearly blistering/peeling. I have never kerbed the wheels and the only person to wash the car is myself, by hand and only using the provided PH Balanced Shampoo.

I have attached some photos.

I have contacted the Dealer, who first warned me about Alloy Cleaning Chemicals and Car Washes would invalidate the Warranty. Undetered it goes into the Workshop for inspection on 12th May 2017. I will keep you posted. I am expecting some push back but I am a dog with a bone on these sorts of things.

I had all 4 authorised for replacement on my 1.5 yr old with 15k.  You'll be ok so long as it's the lacquer that has chunks missing.  (I sold mine before the wheels arrived about 3 months later, apparently they're permanently on back order.  I read of someone escalating their wait to Mazda UK and miraculously their new wheels arrived within a few days)

I also noticed peeling on 2 of my 2015 Sport Nav 19" wheels registered April 2015 now done 20k.
Took to the dealer even though two wheels had been kerbed Mazda agreed to replace all 4 wheels no questions asked.
Cannot fault service received.
