Title: 2018 Mazda 6 2.2 Diesel Which Oil?
Post by: Anewbeginning82 on October 13, 2019, 08:31:51 pm
My car is the facelifted model and having searched on this forum, I see I should be using a C1 engine oil.

Looking at Opie Oils, I see the below oil.  It is C1 and says it is for Mazda diesel engines.  Is this what people use?

It does not look like.

Use the tool.

Make: Mazda

Model: 6

Year: 2018

Type: 2.2 D

Engine: 2191ccm 150HP 110KW (Diesel)

Variant: GJ [Saloon]

Or enter your number plate.

You may be looking for C3 oil:

If you have the owner's manual, you could cross check from there as well.

In general these tools are good but you never know. If it is on the book, at least it came from Mazda.

Thanks for the tips.

Looking at the manual, it states the oil should be C3.  I was under the impression this is bad for the dpf.

Either way, I will be getting the car serviced every 10,000 kilometres (6,000 miles), in order to keep the engine oil free of contamination.

I'm not sure if this is still an issue with Mazda diesels.

No all the C oils are good but each engine is designed for a specific grade. The C1 needs harder metals in the engine as it is "thinner" than the C3 oil. I think they went for the C3 oil because the new engines emit less smoke and as a result they need a lesser DPF than the old engines. On top of that, the C3 oil being "thicker" is more gentle for these fragile engines.

The oil will always mix with the oil every 200 miles or so. The less you drive with a hot engine and without the need to idle or rev it hard, the better it will be with the oil/fuel mix. If you are only driving on short distances, go for the 6K miles or one year interval.

Thanks for clearing that up, I'll stick with the C3 oils then.

I will be doing 6,000 miles oil changes regardless.  I saw first hand the benefit of this in my last car, which was a petrol Mazda 3.  Even after 150,000 miles, the engine was very smooth and sweet.
