PCM/ECU Faulty ?
« on: February 28, 2017, 03:46:55 pm »
Advise and opinion sought....

I have a 2008 Mazda 6 TS which has been diagnosed as having a faulty PCM.

The following warning lights were coming on occasionally (DSC, engine, traction control) and the Rev needle would drop to zero even though the power was continuous.

Mazda completed a diagnosis and advised me that I needed a new crank sensor which was fitted, however immediately the problems continued and further diagnosis was completed.

The new verdict after 2 days of checking the car over was that the PCM was faulty and that I needed to fit a new one or attempt to get the existing one removed, repaired, and re-fitted.

I continued to drive the car for a few months however now the warning lights are permanently on and the engine stays in limp-mode and will not allow the Rev's to get much above 3000 rpm.

I am told that mechanically the engine is fine, and my observations back this up as after some gearing-up to top speed I can drive without any issues or complaint on the motorway.

The only thing I should mention (however I am told is not related) is that the timing chain was replaced just over one year ago as it had stretched and one of the injectors had seized.

I now need to do something about this however discouraged at the PCM replacement cost and concerned that a repair may not be possible yet still be costly.

Any advise or opinion to support my pending decision ?
