Hesitation on 2010 2.2D
« on: November 24, 2015, 08:30:04 am »
Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post.

The problem I am experiencing is the following: My 99800 mile 2010 2.2D's DFP light started to flash, and alongside a letter from my dealer I have booked the car into my local independent for a full service.

Anyway, in between me booking the car in for service and actually taking the car in, it has developed a strange sort of hesitation, sometimes when accelerating and sometimes when cruising. Basically it feels as if the car is sort of hesitating/surging slightly - almost a barely noticeable bunny-hop as if the power is being taken off and applied again for a tiny instant.

I have done a quick reset of the DPF light using the pin to earth method and it has worked fine, without the light coming back on over the last day. I still need to do the DPF regen and injector calibration but will wait until the service has been completed today.

What do you think the problem could be?

Thanks!

Pete

Well, a couple of years down the line and I am still suffering this problem (it is intermittent). I have since replaced the MAF with a brand new one, which improved performance, but did not resolve the occasional hesitation problem.

I want to clean out the EGR but I can't seem to find a guide on how to do this on the MK2 model (in fact I don't even know where it is located in the engine bay).

Thanks,

Pete

Soooooooo we have identified the problem and RESOLVED it completely. Turns out it was the Diesel Fuel Pressure Regulator/SCV (Suction Control Valve). I was charged just under £200 for diagnostics troubleshooting, the part and fitting which I was actually delighted to pay seeing as I was worrying nobody would be able to find the source of the problem without me spending a small fortune on a relatively old and high mileage car.

Because there were no error codes the mechanic spoke to a diesel electronics specialist who diagnosed the problem.

After it was fitted today, I took the vehicle out and for the first time in over a year the drive was as smooth as silk without even a hint of hesitation. There were no problems with kangarooing. Overall a fantastic success.

I would say that this is an easily replaceable part and is available online for around £80-100. Well worth a try!

Well done! There were some older posts about that SCV but all of them were about the first generation cars. Check your mpg for any improvements. What is the current mileage? Does the SCV need checking sporadically for any faults?
