I know I will get grief for this.......
« on: December 16, 2014, 11:15:11 am »
I know I will get grief for this as its probably been asked millions of times and there will be a sticky post somewhere but I did search and did not find it

Is there a guide to changing headlight bulbs on the Mazda 6

I looked on Google and some said you had to remove the bumper (surly not) and some said you can do it from behind but there was no guide

thanks

No grief from us. We are a friendly if conservative bunch.

Have you checked the owners manual? Providing you haven't got HID's, there might be some useful information there. I have only changed the headlamp once on my previous 2003 Sport and access was a right pig! I must of spent over half an hour trying to get the Xenon bulb back in and still failed. I asked one of the lads at work and it took him 2 mins  >:(.

I seem to recall the 2nd generation workshop manual must be owned by Houdini! No one can track it down.

Straight out of the manual which was on this site and now seems to have disappeared apart from the front page

Halogen Type
Low-beam
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the fasteners and slightly bend back the mudguard.
3. Disconnect the connector.
4. Rotate the headlight bulb
5. Remove the headlight bulb.
6. Install in the reverse order of removal

Bumper removal is required for the discharge type.
If you need the instructions for those, please post back and i'll put them on here for you.

Hello John, In addition to 687hug's post:- I had the delightful experience of changing the onside (drivers side) dipped beam bulb. Mine is the " ordinary" TS type bulb. I would certainly buy a few spare poppers that secures the wheel arch liner. The patience of a saint may salvage the old ones. Small hands may help. Mine are not large it still was a struggle. As I remember, I think you can change the onside bulb from under the bonnet with a little careful aerobics. David.

I have taken a photo of the light to show the bulb that has gone off as with these clusters its hard to explain which one it is

Actually I have just been back out to look again and I have got the bulb out. It was actually easy just a little cramped for space.

Un-clipped the connector and then turned the buld and it just popped out

Thanks for the help  :D

Well Done - Yes it's the other side that's a pain as there is something in the way that stops an easy replacement - leading to the need to take off the arch liner and dive in underneath.

Well that's something to look forward to  :-\

But I reckon I would rather pull off the wheelarch liner than remove the bumper like someone suggested (not to me directly)
