dipped and main?
« on: November 13, 2013, 07:12:11 pm »
Never had these lights before but looking at the light reflection on a wall it looks as though the dipped and main beam come from the same lens were the HID's are, looking at pictures of HID replacement there only looks to be one bulb in there.

Do these Hid operate the dipped and main from the same bulb?

Good question.......Bi-Xenon headlamps operate the dipped and main beam from the same bulb. I am not sure if these are used on the Sport models!

I am now going to check my manual.

My last Sport was a 2005 (old shape) with xenon dipped beams and halogen main beams in a separate reflector (inboard).

Current one is late 2011 and the xenon units provide dip and main from the same bulb through the projector lens. Much better.

Sounds as though they work off the same bulb then?

Mine are temperamental on the drivers side at the minute , and when the dip is not working the full beam also will not light up.

Are these bulbs different to standard headlight ones as in the fact when a normal bulb goes its gone but can these come to life at random times or could it be my ballast is on its way out?

D2S for the dip and H9 65 watt full beam.

I wonder if I could put 100watt H9 in to get a better full beam?

Least I could melt the eyes of the numptys who forget to dip when coming towards me.
