Reverse Lights not working
« on: November 09, 2011, 06:50:40 am »
My reverse lights are not working, I checked the fuses and bulbs which all look ok so took it to my local garage who have fittted a new reverse switch but still no joy. They suggested there might be a problem with the gearbox rather than the switch, has anyone else had this problem?

I have not had this problem but a question often asked concerning reverse lights is, are they part of an MOT test.
They are not part of the test so even if they don't work it will not lead to an MOT failure.

cars fitted with a reverse light from the manufacturer must have a working light come mot time.

as for the problem, if the fuse, switch and bulbs are ok, theres a problem with the bits inbetween. could be a loose/borken wire?

i dont see how a gearbox problem would cause the reverse light to stop working. you need to find out if the reverse switch is actually working first, because it could be fitted incorrectly, not working etc etc...

apologies rrobson,
you are correct about manufacturer fitted reverse lights as standard equipment having to work.

dont worry about it, no need for appolgies  :)

glad to hear its been sorted. it could have been a faulty unit (assuming the gargage fitted a new one... not everything works from the factory) some garages are getting worse though. a friend took an audi to the dealer for a service, charged him £400 and did absolutely nothing.
