Title: Second generation Mazda6 low beam and sidelight replacement
Post by: makkmartono on October 25, 2015, 05:34:27 am: Hi guys,

I am getting a second generation 6 on Saturday. The halogen lights are yellow so I want to replace those. It was simple on my Mazda3 but according to various resources you have to remove wheel arch cover on these cars? Is that right? :o
If anyone knows how to do it I would be greatful.

Post by: makkmartono on November 02, 2015, 02:06:45 pm: This is actually very easy. Took me 5 mins max both for both low beams and sidelights. You don't remove anything. The driver side low beam has limited access and the passenger side sidelight is a bit difficult, but doable.

Would you like to share the details on how you achieved this. Any covers to remove? Clips to undo? Connectors to turn? that would help anyone else attempting this.

Post by: makkmartono on November 02, 2015, 03:40:20 pm: You don't have to remove any covers. Turn the light bulbs anti clockwise remove them from the headlight. Unclip the wire from it. I put the bulbs in without attaching the connectors as it is easier.
Put the new bulbs in turn them clockwise attach wires. Easy.

Post by: chadders on November 10, 2015, 04:31:00 pm: I've just changed the sidelight / parking light bulbs in mine to LED's the nearside is dodle esp when you remove the air filter housing whch is just a case of removing the large hose connected to it and pulling the whole unit upwards, loads a room.
The off side is a whole different story due to the air con unit. You need hands the size of a five year old, which incidently I'm not.
I did pull away the wheel arch cover which didn't really help in the end I did it but it's a pig and I'm not looking forward to up grading my dipped and full beam bulbs.

I had a look at it and decided that it was too difficult for me to do, due to the limited space in the area behind the bulb holder. I have bone erosion in my hands which limit me!! So, I took it to a local garage. First of all, as they didn't have the bulb in stock, they had to order it. It took about half an hour to be delivered, Just as they were about to fit it, I noticed that the side light bulb was missing! They'd taken out the wrong bulb and therefore, the wrong replacement bulb was on its way to me! They then rang the bulb dealer and reordered a new bulb, sending the old one back when it arrived!!They then fitted the new bulb, except that it wasn't shining through the lens!! Eventually, they got it to shine and I paid up and drove off.
That night, when it got dark, I switched on my lights only to see the beam pointing to the right and lighting up the night sky. As by now, I had lost all confidence in them, I arranged for my local Mazda dealer to sort it out. This, they did for the reasonable sum of £17. Accept, when it got dark and I put the lights on, they were still pointing to the right!! So, I took the car back, and hopefully, all is now well!!!
If the main dealer cant get it right, and the local garage cant get it right, what chance have I got??? Why do they make simple things so difficult these days??
I remember years ago, all you needed was a replacement bulb and a Phillips screwdriver and the job was done in 5 minutes! What price progress??
Incidentally, the nearside light looks a lot easier as it doesn't have all the pipes and bangos to get in the way!
