side lights turning themselves on
« on: October 07, 2017, 01:44:10 pm »
hello all
this is my first post on here as a newbie.
ive just purchased a very lovely 185 sport diesel that is superb.
yesterday I started having electrical issues that were the front and back side lights came on for no good reason,i had to disconnect the battery to make them go out then they stayed of for about 3 hours then same problem again, last night interior lights came on by themselves.today I put headlamps on for motorway driving and handbrake warning light came on ,it went off when I turned the headlamps on and off again.and the keyless key symbol has turned red whilst driving so I put a new battery in fob but no joy.
now I cant operate locking system at all.
I have my own garage business so obvisouly have scan tool but not had access to it as I was away when all this happened.any ideas guys,im thinking body control module or similar.
all replies very welcome

Give it a chance. You only posted a few hours ago. We have over 2,000 members, some who only visit every couple of days or so.  Someone will answer soon :)

There are people who had mentioned the problems with the keyless system and they ended up paying top dollar to the dealer to fix it. They had not mentioned the lights though but maybe you had it all together.

Try that earth quick fix:

But keep an eye on these:

It actually sounds like a poor earth somewhere so first thing is check all the engine earth straps and battery terminals.
