Replacement 6 sport engines
« on: August 30, 2015, 10:07:56 am »
Ive got a 2009 6 Sport that has developed a noise. It was low on oil (very low) and i dropped a gear (4th to 3rd) at high revs and it started making a rattling / knock sound. It still drives but its noisy. Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53va8oXoP9c. Possible explanations that have been suggested are rod bearing knock or the valve timing chain, that goes from cam to cam, i.e. the tensioner has died and chain is slapping the casing. Both seem reasonable to me, but I'm in the dark.

If its an engine rebuild or replacement any recommendations where to get an engine / get this done?

Low on Oil could have done many things to an engine .All not good. Could be anything from worn piston , to wear on the big and or little ends. Your suggestion re timing chain would also sound similar.
Without a strip down and take a good look you are guessing.!
