2010 mazda 6 drivers seat problems/issues
« on: April 19, 2013, 10:09:04 pm »
Hi all.

I was just wondering if any of you Mazda 6 drivers are having problems with your drivers seat?

Mine is giving me no end of issues....

1st off is that it is rattling and knocking as though it is loose?

2nd the leather is wearing pretty badly

3rd it looks as though the heater element is moving in the back of the seat and making a lump.

Lastly the cushioning in the thigh support and the shoulder support all seems to be collapsing to the point of the seat being truly uncomfortable to be sat in.

Think it needs to go back toMazda

It seems to have got worse and now the cushion feels as though it has collapsed where your shoulders go!

I had the problem with the leather wearing badly within the first 6000 miles, but the seat was changed under warranty. You need to apply some leather conditioner (I had some with the Scotch Guard and paint protection package) to keep the leather soft.

Had first service today as new owner. Loose drivers seat turns out to be missing / collapsed "push nuts" for which Mazda want to charge me £70 to replace.
I remonstrated that the car is three years old and has only done 36K to which I was told the previous owner "was probably a big chap".

Will have a look myself tomorrow at work.

Disgusting to think something like this (which could fail an MOT) is not covered by any warranty.

Totally agree.
Mazda know it's a problem, after all, they caused it!
If you can find all their mistakes within the warranty period, they'll fix them.
If you can't, Mazda will tell you it's your fault for not finding it sooner.

Who said customer service was dead?

i had my seat fixed under warranty - which has now expired.
Recently i found two spring washers under the drivers seat which look like they have fallen off the underside of the seat.

Had a look (hopefully the picture is allowed)

Starlock washer missing off pivot for seat tilt.

Can't be worth 70 quid of anybody's money. Off to the workshop to find something similar!

Have written to Mazda UK complaining but probably fix myself in 5 minutes.

Had a reply from customer services:
"Thank you for contacting the Mazda Customer Assistance Centre recently, from which I am sorry to learn of the necessity for repair on your Mazda 6.Any repair required outside of the manufacturer’s warranty period is always disappointing as inevitably the cost of the repairs required is the responsibility of the vehicle owner.  Notwithstanding this, we do operate a goodwill policy for customers who experience an unexpected repair outside of the manufacturer’s warranty period, and when assessing these requests we take a number of factors into consideration.  These consist of age (under 60 months old), mileage, nature of repair, and a full and on time Mazda service history.  In addition, consideration would only be given to a vehicle that meets this criterion, and has been purchased within the original manufacturer’s warranty period.  A purchase made outside of this is made in the knowledge that there would be no support from the manufacturer in terms of a warranty.  Under the circumstances, I regret that we are unable to assist you with the cost of repairing your vehicle. In closing, I am sorry that my reply could not be more favourable; however I thank you for giving me the opportunity to clarify our position in this regard
Regards
Chris Blake

Which bit of the list of criteria does your car not fit in!!!

If yours is a 2010 model surely its only just outside of the warranty? Considering they lookup to 60months on a good will basis!!

Seems a bit mean unless I'm missing something?

I am resurrecting this thread and the referred thread within it.
This has happened to my 09 plate 6 sport in the last week. I was going to remove the seat this weekend to see what the cause was. Found 3 washers under the seat, suspect there might be another somewhere. The seat moves occassionally and rocks but I unless I get the seat out, I can't see what exactly the fault is.

Obviously my car is well out of warranty but has only been serviced at the Mazda dealer that supplied it to the previous owner. It wasn't bought from there however.

Did anyone get anywhere with a free repair from Mazda out of warranty? There is nothing on the VOSa website nor the US site listing Mazda TSB's.

Do I need a "seat repair kit" like this one? -> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130846464510

Thanks in advance

All I did was get a couple of Starlock washers from a fixings company (told them I required them for testing!) and tapped one over the spindle. I used a tube spanner to distribute the load from the hammer.

Worked a treat and saved £70.

The black parts on the ebay advert look like the correct parts (not sure what the other fixings are for).

Thanks for your post. Having looked at it properly today,  I just needed to tap the starlock washers back on. Put a little dreadlock on for good measure.
