Surface scratches
« on: January 14, 2014, 10:00:49 am »
Gentlemen,

I washed my 6 @ the weekend with shampoo and used the conservator as I have Diamondbrite on my car. I noticed that I have a series of scratches on the n/s passenger door.

I am convinced that these were caused by branches and I enquiring to see what is the best form of cleaning to remove them. They are not deep scratches.

I was going to wait until March/April when the climate is more suitable and give the car a good wash/clay/polish/wax but I am toying with the idea of taking it to a bodyshop and getting it machined polished. What do you guys think?

I very rarely have 5/6 hrs of a weekend to spend on cleaning the car as I have a young family so the idea of giving it to a professional who would do a better job is appealing (not sure what the outlay would be though).

To be honest I would wait as you say, it's a shame you don't live near me I would offer, the blue should have an amazing depth to it when finished.

I just spent 7 hours on mine for a mid winter polish but I will be going over the full works march time.

Why don't you try some rubbing compound on the scratches? If they are just surface scratches you will find it will work a treat.

Remove the scratches with Farecla G3 and finish with 3M Imperial hand glaze.

Works very well even by hand.

This is a mates car he took to the local hand car wash guys, after months of getting it done every week this is how it ended up looking after I took their magic solution off.

I used G3 on it with a rotary polisher to get rid of the damage they had done and ended up with a pre polish/waxed surface like this.

Amazing transformation.

Just for anyone else reading this. Use G3 carefully.  It is a very fine abrasive.  Use plenty of water and if you use an electric polisher, dont go over the top or you can rub the paint down to bare metal or burn it due to overheating.

Slow and steady and you'll be fine.

678hug,

It's funny you should mention that. I have just read some reviews on the Halfords website and they are terrible. It looks some customers have used this scratch remover and damaged the paint finish on their motor even though they claim to have followed the instructions.
