Replacing 2012 non-Bose stereo / head unit (with reversing cam)
« on: October 25, 2018, 10:26:37 am »
Hi all,

I need to upgrade my head unit, mainly so that I can make calls without touching the phone, and replacing with an Android unit seems the best all-round solution. It will also give me the option to add a reversing cam , which I have got used to having over the last few years.

This is what I am thinking of in the first instance:

HU:  Xtrons 9" Android unit    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9-Android-7-1-Car-Head-Unit-GPS-SAT-NAV-Stereo-DAB-Radio-for-Mazda-6-2008-2012/401608611953

Cam:  Xtrons 170 reversing cam   https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTRONS-170-CAR-REVERSING-REVERSE-BACK-UP-CAMERA-4-LEDS-WIDE-ANGLE-WATERPROOF/400570624275

Questions:
1. are there any spare power outlets that are an easy tap-in for the cam in the boot...?
2. if not, what's the best way of delivering power...?
3. any issues with tapping into the reversing light wires..?

Car is a 2.2 TS2 diesel hatch.

Cheers in advance.
