Mazda 6 gj 2.2d dpf regen
« on: February 25, 2018, 02:25:57 pm »
The oil level is slowly rising on my Mazda
Is there a way of forcing the car to perform a regen like you can do on the older models??
No dpf light on but the car is a bit hessistant when pulling away so want to clean it before it gets too late

How many miles since oil and filter change ? If 6/7000 I would change them only refill oil to 1/8 inch below full mark as per Mazda instructions use Mazda oil only use high grade diesel try motorway run keeping revs 3000 plus should start a regen and keep it going then rely on regular oil changes check oil level by the stick each week. How many miles has car done you might have to have strainer checked.

Car had a full service in October.
Probably done 2-3k since.
Nearest motorway is an hour away!
Car also feels a bit lumpy in first and second gear.
If I get the regen to work, would the oil level go down or would it still need a oil and filter change??

No the level will not go down if the regens are successful then it should hold where it is but if it’s over halfway to the X mark then I would change the oil with low ash oil and start again and that strainer in the sump might need checking??

Also have you checked via the vin number that yours hasn’t got the camshaft issue being a 13 plate as dwarf from the soft cams blocks the strainer? Check if been modified.
What mileage has the car done ??

Don’t take the forced DPF regenerations lightly as they add too much stress to the car. Keep driving the car as you normally do and if the oil reaches the limit, replace it. As you did the last service on October, you can replace the oil on March when you are half way through the next service and keep halving the service intervals. It is normal for the oil to rise. You cannot do anything about it no matter how you drive the car will always need some regeneration. The hesitation may be just a normal thing for cars that are not used in proper conditions.

Yep extra oil and filter changes are the way to go as I have said I do mine every 6/7000 miles and the level never goes over the full mark but if yo don’t do the miles then change it every 6 months but still check it every 1000 by the stick don’t rely on the lights coming on as by then it’s getting to late

Cars booked in for oil and filter change on Thursday.
Garage are also going to do an emissions test to see if the dpf is getting blocked/restricted

You could also invest in a OBD reader (Tacklife)   and download  Forscan software to a smart phone or tablet. £22  for both including postage.
You can program it to give all sorts of readings, including: Miles since last regen  :   DP  differential pressure (  a guide that tells you the DPF  is blocking up).   But follow what Steve  says  also.
If you can drive it at a steady 2-3k revs for a 30 minutes to an hour on a regular basis it will clear the DPF out. It doesn't need to be thrashed  but sustained steady load  will hear up the  exhaust gasses and burn the carbon out. It also clears out the EGR  which could be the cause of fluttering.
