Intermittent Noise on Warm/Hot Start-up
« on: November 02, 2017, 06:44:09 am »
Good Morning,  I have just bought a Mazda 6 Estate - wow what a car,  love it.   I have a small issue though.  When starting the car iwith a cold engine everything is good.  When the engine is warm, and it is intermittent ( maybe 2-3 times a week), the car takes a couple of turns before she fires.  As soon as the engine fires there is a terrible mechanical noise and the car stalls.  Try immediately after - all OK.  I have ruled out DMF , as clutch and gearbox are good.  I have ruled out any water getting into cylinders as coolant level is stable.  Has anyone any ideas ?  Could it be the starter moter sticking in the gearing when it trys to turn the engine over.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Ian

I have no idea what the noise could be but as you just bought it, did you go back to the dealer?

It was bought from Quick Car Credit company, and I paid for insurance with it.   I have a limit of 300 GBP per issue (not inc labour), so before I make any rash decisions I am looking for an experienced consensus.

Maybe you could try to use this £300 for diagnostics. Independent dealers usually resell auction cars and yours could be a problematic part exchange that could not be sold at the franchise.

I have had the full diagnostics done and there are no - errs, that is why I am tending towards a mechanical issue.  Thank-you for your comments.

I know what you mean. When I say diagnostics, I mean not to plug the car to a generic computer and hope that the computer can read what the car says, but to use an experienced and willing technician to go over the car and check what is going wrong. If they cover the cost to go a franchise dealer, go for it. If you use their own garage, it is very likely they will never find anything wrong with the car and they come back saying that this is so normal.
