Safety Recall Notice
« on: October 04, 2017, 04:51:19 pm »
Hi all,

Come home just now and found a Safety recall notice from mazda.  It says there could be a safety issue with the drivers seat and tailgate support struts.

Anyone else had this letter today?  Or have had these issues resolved by mazda?

Cheers

This is part of a massive recall by Mazda on Tailgate struts.  There are many members on our sister Mazda 3 site who have also have received letters.  Quite a few of them have had the recall done apparently it takes about  2 hours to carry out the strut recall work.

There are incidents involving drivers seat insecurity mention on this forum, it might be worth having a quick search to acquaint yourself.   The drivers seat recall seems at the moment to be Mazda 6 specific.

Thanks.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I should be looking for in regard to the tailgate strut? Is it easily visible or do I need to get under the car?  Just want to make sure what i’m Looking for and what to look at after the work has been done.

The driver seat on our car makes some really odd noises when you get in & out.  Like it’s not fixed correctly.

The Tailgate strut issue on the Mazda 3 consisted of replacing the struts with a modified design that had a better rubber seal .
Easily visible, just lift the tailgate and look.  As the recall is on multiple Mazda models the chances are the solution if required, will be the same

Regards the drivers seat it appears there is a possibility that the adjuster link may be cracked or the securing nuts may become detached.

I had a recall letter a couple of months ago, but only for the struts. According to Mazda they recalled all the old ones as well, just to make sure that all the struts are replaced. My one was 100% fine, no rust at all. In terms of the driver's seat I haven't received anything, but my one does rock from side to side.

I had the seat and the struts fixed in June. Apparently, the tail struts could fail resulting in the lid dropping down and causing injury if you happen to be under it at the time!!!

What "Horror stories" ?  The only reports I saw were a couple of cases where the tailgate gradually  closed by itself, because gas in the struts slowly leaked out.  Not really a horror.

There was nothing wrong with the seat or the struts. But, I'd always err on the side of caution when it comes to my well being!

I was told by Mazda that one of their cars had such rusted struts that the tailgate collapsed down and almost hit the owner.
