Instrument cluster external lights indicators
« on: March 28, 2017, 06:15:39 pm »
Hi all. Just realised my dashboard doesn't indicate when I have any external lights on! I put on side and main beam, tried full beam and fog lights........ nothing. I thought it was a requirement of the MOT to have this function. I've looked in the manual and it shows you the standard symbols for the lights, but unhelpfully it just says they may appear in any number of the positions shown in the diagram.
I've looked at pictures of illuminated instrument panels on Google and these don't seem to have the indicative light symbols either. Can someone shed any light on this? (Pun not intended!)
Cheers in advance.

I'm not familiar with your particular car, but I've had plenty cars/vans over the years with no dash warning lights to inform you that your sidelights or headlights are switched on.  I'm pretty sure it's a requirement to have a light for main beam tho (I've always had one for that), and there should be one for the foglights (but it can be at the switch rather than in the instrument cluster).

On my 2011 registered 2.0 ltr Takuya the side and head lamp and main beam show on the bottom left of the instrument cluster. Hope that helps, if the main beam is on that is in blue, otherwise in pale green from memory.

Cheers guys. I've just been to have another look and the blue symbol comes on when you put high beam on then the orange light indicates rear fog lights. No front ones as far as i can tell. Must be a Mazda thing! Now I just need to replace a side light and fog light bulb so worth a look over. Only had the car a couple of weeks.

Pretty sure it's been covered on this forum before but can't find it now.
Various answers from what i remember but my 2nd gen 2009 definitely doesn't have any internal dashboard lights to indicate when the headlights are on.

I agree no internal light for main headlights or sidelights. Only indicators are main beam, front and rear fog lights.
