Mazda 6 idle problems
« on: January 20, 2017, 02:53:06 pm »
Hi guys any help welcome
I've got a Mazda 6 2.2 diesel 60 plate that will start and idle for about 5 minutes then it starts getting rough and cuts out, I thought it was the pump but had it tested and it's not that so I'm stuck. Anybody got any ideas please.

When it's running do you get any smoke either black or white from the exhaust ?
Otherwise sounds like maybe fuel problem /lack of.?
Maybe possible injector problems..?!
Like all internal combustion engines, if it has compression, fuel and ignition it will run
maybe even badly ,but it will run.

Hi guys an update on the mazda 6 2.2 diesel idle problem.
I've changed the temperature sensor which seems to have cured the idle problem but when I turn the engine off it will not start up again straight away so I have yo wait about 10-15 minutes before it will start again. Anybody any suggestions please.

If you are in the AA or RAC,  call them out if it happens away from  home, they might do a scan and give  you the code numbers or reason for failing , then you may be able to tackle it yourself, if not you are armed with whats wrong.
Sounds like the sort of thing that would happen to a petrol.
What about loose or worn wires to sensors or the fuel system, pump etc.
Starts ok from cold, but problems when warmed up. Sounds more  electrical than mechanical.
A faulty Air Flow Sensor would tend to prevent revving  much over 2.5k, but doubt if it would cause it to cut out.  You could try unplugging  it  and see if it makes any differance, you might get black smoke, but if it revs freely with it disconnected it might have a bearing on it. These cost  about £100   or more ( £75, 10 years ago for a British car)  so not the sort of thing to try willy nilly, in case its that, but ends up as not (  unlike the dealers who keep replacing parts till they get it right).
