My 2008 Mazda 6 Sport failed to start last week and is still in that state. Both the push button start indicator light and the keyless warning red lights illuminate at the same time. The ignition simply will not work, whether via keyless or via the physical override (when you insert the actual key inside the fob into the steering column).
The problem has been pin-pointed to the Keyless Entry Module. However this unit has been replaced by a second-hand unit from ebay which worked for a few hours but then the exact same issue occurred again with the replacement.
I have found a couple of references via Google to some codes (DTCs) causing the keyless module to go into fail-safe mode though this allegedly causes a hard-to-start condition instead of an impossible-to-start condition. The solution to this fail-safe mode is to replace the Keyless Entry Module with allegedly updated software (with model number GSYD-67-5DZG).
On my car this fail-safe mode cannot seem to be reversed. It has also proved impossible to retrieve any codes.
Both the original unit and the replacement item (that has now failed too) have model number GS1D-67-5DZG.
So it looks like I should just replace my GS1D module with a GSYD module but these cost £750 from Mazda UK. Can I be sure that any GSYD module will be okay? How do I tell the software revision on a module?
Any help or advice on this would be appreciated.
