2011 mazda 6 2.2d servicing and service interval reset
« on: May 02, 2019, 01:38:08 pm »
Hi all, an oil service is coming up for my 2011 mazda 6 2.2d, i have bought the oil and filter. Rather than mazda dexelia dpf 5w30 oil, i bought Shell helix diesel ultra AF-L much cheaper, and a bluprint oil filter ADS72101.
The dipstick is just past F, and service indicator isnt flashing yet ( dpf light flashing), but i wanted to do it a bit early anyway.
I know how to reset the service indicator ( dpf flashing) light when its actually flashing, by putting a wire top right in fusebox connector to ground, and then hitting the accelerator pedal quickly 5 times.
But i was wondering if i should still do this reset procedure now after changing the oil. I reckon i should, and it should reset the internal miles counter in the ecu.
any ideas ?

another thought, should i do a forced dpf regen ? is it a good idea to do one anyway ? (my dpf light isnt on) especially as im about to do an oil change, it might be better to use that old oil/filter in a dpf regen before i put new oil in.

i just found this cheat sheet, i know it says a 2009, but it looks like the overall procedure is identical

Your service indicator and the DPF light are the same thing.

It is already flashing. So reset it with the oil change.

If you change the oil early next time, you can either reset it without flashing or just leave it alone.

It will not make any difference as long as you keep a diary of the mileage and change the oil within 12,500 miles or 1 year.

So if you change the oil and reset the DPF light now, and then want to change again 7,000 miles later, it is highly likely that the DPF will not flashing at that point.

So if you decide not to reset it but just change the oil, the car will be fine.

But if then decide to change it again within the next 7,000 miles, your total will be 14,000 miles and that will be beyond the 14,000 miles.

As a result, your DPF light may flash before you reach the next 7,000 miles.

I would reset the DPF with an oil change.

Then on your first drive, do the injectors calibration after you stop.

Do that only if the DPF is not regenerating at this point.

Otherwise wait to do the calibration on the next drive.

Do not do the forced DPF regeneration.

It is harmful for the engine and the DPF.

You only do it if your car has problems.

In exchange you add extra load to the engine but you had no other way of avoiding without removing the DPF.

Stick with the basics and if something works, just leave it alone.

hi pav, thanks for your reply.
yes, i know the dpf light is also used as the service indicator !
Just to be clear my dpf light is currently off.

I am assuming the service indicator counts 12500 miles, but i was wondering if it also counts the date ?
Question1. ie could dpf service indicator light come on after 12 months regardless of mileage ?

So i am planning to change the oil & filter, and do the oil service reset counter procedure ( wire top right to ground, press accel quickly 5 times).

After this, i decided after reading your advice, i will NOT do a forced regen as its not needed, and dont need to reset the dpf counter either.

No it does not count miles or days.

It is a sensor for the oil quality.

Depending on your driving style, it can go far beyond 12,500 miles.

It will never come up because you completed one year since the last reset.
