Remap with an Auto
« on: October 02, 2017, 01:45:41 pm »
Ive had many diesel cars remapped with great results and no detrimental effects, however Ive never owned an auto before and am interested if anyone has remapped an auto and have there been any issues?

The gearbox plays no role in the remapping and most powerful cars nowadays come with an auto box, so nothing to worry about that. But, you will not gain anything serious by remapping a NA engine. If you rebuild it you could potentially gain something but then the engine will not suit the requirements of a family car and it will have cost you a fortune. You have much bigger gains with turbo engines but there is always a trade off to pay at some point such as shortening the life of the clutch, gearbox, etc. The small gains you may get from remapping your engine, probably will not cause any troubles to the auto box.

Apav, whilst you are correct in your statements regarding the potential in remapping an NA car, I think you are under a misapprehension. The OP has a diesel.  :)
Look at life through the windscreen, not the rearview mirror.

Oops!  :P

The way you expressed your concern, misled me to believe that you are a petrolhead.

I think the gearbox will be fine but Mazda diesels are too fragile to play with. If you are still under warranty and want to keep the car, you may be better off by not touching. If you want to sell it soon, you can experiment with it.
